The holidays are always a great time to see family and renew friendships. I love getting Christmas cards from people I know but rarely hear from. I love taking cookies to neighbors and setting up lunches with old friends. We did a lot of that this year, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Now that the holidays are over, I’m happy to say that I’ve been rekindling my connection with another group of people I’ve not heard from in a while.
I finished a good draft of my fourth novel in June of last year. But, since we had just moved and were beginning the arduous process of remodeling our new Wyoming house, editing and polishing my story were set aside. Now, jubilantly, I have time and quiet enough to get on with the work of polishing and editing. I started last Monday, and though it might sound strange, I’ve been ecstatic to have my imaginary characters populating my thoughts again.
Karl came in the office a few minutes ago and said, “You’ve been at this for over five hours. How can you just sit in front of the computer for so long? Doesn’t your back hurt?”
I just laughed. Little does he know that I’ve not been sitting in front of my computer at all. I’ve been strolling the streets of Encampment, Wyoming with Claire and Sari in 1917, I’ve been cowering with Jesse as bombs whistle by during the Battle of Amiens in France in 1918. I’ve been somewhere other than here in the office, and loving every moment.
P.S. I’ll keep you up to date about my progress. This novel is a direct sequel to my second novel, Peaks and Valleys, and I think you’ll like it.
